When someone subscribes to hear from your brand, it's a key moment in the customer journey. This is your chance to welcome and introduce new contacts to your business and products when they're most likely to be interested and engaged using a thoughtful welcome email automation.

🛠️ Event-Based Triggers for Welcome Automation

To trigger an automation upon a new newsletter subscription, use the subscription event that adds the contact to a list.

  • This event is triggered when a user signs up and the system adds them to your chosen list.

  • Automations in platforms like PushOwl can then initiate based on this event.

  • Action: Ensure that your list settings are correctly configured to capture and manage these subscriptions.

Use of Contact Filters

You do not need to add a contact filter to set up automations for newsletter subscriptions. The subscription event itself is sufficient to trigger the desired automation, simplifying the setup process.

🗺️ New Subscribers/Contacts Flow

There are a few different ways how contacts can subscribe to your newsletter, which impact how the welcome automation is triggered:

1. Subscription through PushOwl Opt-in Pop-up/Embed Form or Brevo Embed Forms

This is the most direct path, often used to offer a special discount upon signing up.

Step

Action

1.

Visitor lands on the website.

2.

PushOwl Opt-in Pop-up or an embedded form shows up.

3.

Subscription is completed through the pop-up or embed forms.

4.

Contact is added to a predefined list selected in the Configuration section (e.g., in PushOwl's opt-in editor).

5.

Welcome Automation (e.g., created in Brevo) is triggered with the event Contact Added to a list.

6.

Welcome Automation email goes out to the new subscriber.

2. Subscribing While Completing a Purchase from the Checkout Page

In this case, the contact is first added to Shopify and then synced to your email platform (like Brevo).

  • The contact is added to a list called shopify-customers (the default list, which can be changed from the Synchronisation Settings).

  • The welcome automation can be selected to be triggered through this list as well.

  • Note: The welcome automation in this case goes out to all the contacts, even if they are buyers.

📌 Important Note on Syncing

Be aware of how different forms sync data to avoid duplicate contacts or missed triggers:

  • A contact added via a PushOwl opt-in pop-up is added to the shopify-customers list as well. This happens because the contact is added to Shopify, and the sync adds them to the list.

  • If a Brevo embed form is being used, it won't add the contact back to Shopify. A contact captured this way is only added to the list selected in the Brevo form settings.

By following these guidelines, you can set up automations efficiently for your newsletter subscribers, enabling better engagement and more streamlined workflows.
