Subscriber tagging helps you organize and segment your audience based on how they joined your list. This guide explains how to set up subscriber tagging in your PushOwl forms and make the most of this feature.

Setting up subscriber tags

For new forms

  1. Create a new popup or embedded form

  2. Click on "Configure" in the form editor

  3. Select the "Tagging" option

  4. Enter a new tag name or select from existing tags

  5. Complete your form setup and publish

For existing forms

  1. Go to your Forms dashboard

  2. Select the form you want to modify

  3. Click "Configure"

  4. Select "Tagging"

  5. Add or modify tags as needed

  6. Save and republish your form

How tagging works

When a visitor subscribes through a form with tags:

  • The tag is automatically attached to their subscriber profile

  • This happens instantly at the moment of subscription

  • The tag will persist even if you modify the form later

  • Multiple tags can be associated with a single subscriber

Using tags for segmentation

Tags are powerful tools for creating targeted marketing campaigns. Here are some practical ways to use them:

Track promotional response

Tag subscribers based on the offer that converted them:

  • "Holiday_25_Off" for holiday promotion signups

  • "Free_Shipping_Offer" for shipping promotions

  • "New_Collection_Preview" for product launch subscribers

Creating segments in Brevo

Once your subscribers are tagged, you can create powerful segments in Brevo:

  1. Go to your Brevo dashboard

  2. Navigate to Contacts > Lists & Segments

  3. Create a new segment

  4. Use tags as filter criteria

  5. Combine multiple tags for precise targeting

For example, you could create a segment of subscribers who:

  • Signed up during your holiday promotion

  • Haven't made a purchase yet

  • Are interested in new product launches

This allows you to send highly targeted campaigns to specific subscriber groups based on their interests and behaviors.

Best practices

  1. Use Consistent Naming: Create a naming convention for your tags (e.g., "Source_", "Promo_", "Interest_")

  2. Document Your Tags: Keep a record of what each tag means and when it was implemented

  3. Regular Cleanup: Periodically review and remove unused tags to keep your system organized

  4. Test Before Launch: Always test your tagged forms to ensure tags are being applied correctly

  5. Plan Your Segments: Think about how you'll use tags for segmentation before creating them
