Follow these simple steps to trigger SMS messages (for example, on new orders) without writing a single line of code.
Prerequisites
PushOwl App Installed
Make sure PushOwl is installed in your Shopify store. If it is not installed, we will ask you to install PushOwl
SMS Service Onboarded & Plan Active
In PushOwl, complete SMS onboarding and purchase an SMS plan.
If you haven’t done this yet, you’ll be prompted during setup.
🚀 Step-by-Step Guide
1. Open the Flow App
From your Shopify admin, go to Apps → Flow.
2. Create a New Workflow
Click Create workflow on the Flow home screen.
3. Select Your Trigger or choose from template
Select your trigger
Click Select a trigger
Search for Order Created (or type any trigger you need)
Select Order created
This will fire your workflow every time a new order is placed.
Choose a prebuilt template
Click on Browse template
Search for Order Created (or type any trigger you need)
4. Add the PushOwl SMS
On the next screen, click on App and Search for PushOwl in the app list
Select Send SMS Text Message
If PushOwl isn’t installed yet, you’ll see an Install PushOwl button.
Click it and return to Flow when installation completes.
5. Onboard to SMS (If Needed)
If you haven’t finished SMS onboarding, Flow will prompt you to:
Authorise PushOwl to send SMS
Pick a sender name / Sender ID
Purchase an SMS plan
Once that’s done, return to Send SMS Text Message in your Flow action.
6. Configure Your SMS
Fill in the fields:
Recipient phone number (e.g.
{{ order.phone }})Sender name (your store or brand)
Message body (use Liquid variables like
{{ order.name }})
Tip: Personalize your message with dynamic order details for higher engagement.
7. Enable & Save Your Workflow
Toggle Enable automation
Click Save
Your workflow is now live! Every time the trigger fires, PushOwl will send an SMS according to your settings.
✅ Testing & Troubleshooting
Test an order: Place a test order in your store and confirm you receive the SMS.
Error “PushOwl not found”:
Go back to Shopify Apps → Install PushOwl.
Refresh Flow → Re-add the Send SMS action.
Error “SMS plan required”:
In PushOwl, complete SMS onboarding and buy a plan.
Return to Flow and resume configuration.
